Sustainability at Carlsberg

In 2016, we laid the foundation for a new, more integrated approach to sustainability, ensuring that we concentrate our efforts on the areas that really make a difference. This approach underpins our licence to brew and operate and is essential to the successful implementation of the Group’s new strategy, SAIL’22.

Partnerships for change

Through partnerships with experts like WWF, Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) and the Carbon Trust we have a more detailed understanding of our impacts. This work will provide a solid basis for devising our new long-term targets, which will be announced in 2017.

Our four priority areas

In 2016, a materiality assessment with Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) identified the four most important sustainability topics, risks and impacts for our business. These are Energy & carbon, Water, Responsible drinking and Health & safety.

Responsible business

Certain topics fall outside the four sustainability priority areas identified by our materiality assessment. They are nonetheless important to our business and stakeholders. These are labour & human rights, responsible sourcing, anti-bribery & corruption and product quality & safety.

Health & safety

Having identified the four areas that are most important for our business and stakeholders, we assessed the extent of our impacts – large, medium or small – in each part of the value chain. This information is now helping shape our sustainability strategy and targets.

Carlsberg Group and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Our determination to contribute to better society harmonises with the global drive for prosperity with lower impact set out in the Paris Climate Accord and the UN’s SDGs.
